Biedrība ir Sabiedriskā organizācija, kurā uz brīvprātības principa apvienojušās fiziskās personas, tai skaitā Invalīdi, kuri cietuši Černobiļas atomelektrostacijas (AES) Avārijas rezultātā un citās kodolobjektu Avārijās.

Biedrības mērķi ir:

Sabiedriskā labuma darbība;
SAVU biedru sociāli - ekonomisko tiesību un interešu aizsardzība un pārstāvniecība visās valsts, pašvaldību uc institūcijās, politiskajās un sabiedriskajās organizācijās, starptautiskajās organizācijās, Atbilstoši starptautisko tiesību vispārpieņemtiem principiem;
piedalīties savlaicīgas un reālas palīdzības organizēšanā ČAES Avārijas seku likvidēšanas rezultātā cietušajiem kā arī citiem, kuri cietuši jebkurā citā radioaktīvajā Avārijā un kodolizmēģinājumos;
veicināt invalīdu ārstēšanās un rehabilitācijas Sistēmu pilnveidošanu, lai veicinātu to integrāciju sabiedrībā;

No 1993. lidz 1999. gadam Latvijas Savienības "Černobiļa" Valde Izstrādāja un iesniedza Valdībā un Saeimā likumprojektu "Černobiļas atomelektrostacijas Avārijas Seku likvidēšanas dalībnieku un Černobiļas atomelektrostacijas Avārijas rezultātā cietušo personu sociālās aizsardzības likumam". Likumprojekta apspriešanā visās valdības un Saeimas komisijās piedalījās mūsun pārstāvji. Veicām pasākumus likumprojekta Sabiedrības atbalstam. Likumam Saeimā tika pieņemts 1999. gadā. Likums nosaka ČAES dalībnieka un ČAES rezultātā cietušo Personu statusu veselības aprūpes un sociālās garantijas. Biedrība aktīvi sadarbojas ar Paula Stradiņa klīnisko Universitātes slimnīcu medicīniskās bāzes uzlabošanai. Ir izveidojusies ilggadīga Sadarbība ar Paula Stradiņa Klīniskās Universitātes Slimnīcas valdi, kā arī ar profesori Eglīti, I.Supi, T.Zvāguli, J.Cīruli, N.Kurjāni, E.Čurbakovu, G.Zubkovu, T.Farbtuhu uc

Pateicoties Valdes aktīvai darbībai Paula Stradiņa Klīniskajā universitātes slimnīcā tika uzcelta "jaunā" ēka, Atrasts finansējums Projekta un Celtniecības darbiem, kur izvietots unpašreiz atrodas Aroda un radiācijas medicīnas centrs, Valsts "Černobiliešu" reģistrs un Konsultatīvā poliklīnika, kur tiek sniegta medicīniskā palīdzība ČAES Avārijas Seku likvidatoriem.

Valde piedalās semināros un konferencēs, Kur tiek skarti radiācijas kaitīgās ietekmes jautājumi.

Ir izveidojusies sadarbībā ar Japānas Chernobvl Hibakusha fondu (Fumi Yamashita), kurš ir sniedzis lielu palīdzību Paula Stradiņa klīniskai slimnīcai, ČAES Avārijas seku likvidēšanas dalībnieku Rehabilitācijas atbalstīšanai kā arī Biedrībai. Chernobvl Hibakusha fonds IS materiāli atbalstījis daudzu Gadu garumā Aroda un radiācijas medicīnas Centra darbinieku stažēšanos Japānā, lai celtu kvalifikāciju.

Biedrības valde katru gadu apseko Lauku rajonus, tiekas ar Pašvaldību vadītājiem, kur risina tur dzīvojošu ČAES Avārijas seku likvidēšanas dalībnieku Veselības un sociālās Aprūpes jautājumus.

Biedrības valde organizē masu akcijas, lai aizstāvētu savu biedru sociālās aizsardzības intereses. Bierības valdei ir ilggadīga sadarbībā ar Latvijas Bērnu Fondu projekta "Černobiļas bērni" ietvaros.

Biedrības prezidents A.Ā.Vērzemnieks un viceprezidents M.Šops ir vairākkārt piedalījušies Latvijas Republikas Saeimas sociālās un darbalietu komisijas sēdēs, KUR tiek skarti mums interesējošie jautājumi.

Paula Stradiņa klīniskās universitītes Slimnīcas teritorija pēc Valdes iniciatīvas ir uzstādīta piemiņas plāksne Černobiļas traģēdijas upuriem. Katru gadu Aprīļa mēnesī tiek rīkoti piemiņas pasākumi, kuros piedalās ČAES Avārijas seku likvidēšanas dalībnieki, valsts institūciju, Rīgas domes, Ukrainas, Baltkrievijas, Krievijas uc vēstniecību pārstāvji.

Biedrības Valdes priekšsēdētājs, viceprezidents unValdes locekļi savu darbu veic UZ sabiedriskiem pamatiem, nesaņemot pag to atalgojumu.
